About Funky Simplicity -Top: Lululemon Twist & Train Bra, Jaded, Size 4 (true to size) Bottom: Funky Simplicity Legging, Grey Cactus, XS (true to size) Funky Simplicity was founded by Sanne Lekkerkerker in 2001. She discovered the high quality soft yet strong cotton lycra fabric in Bali back in 1994. She had a pair of legging made out of that fabric for herself and fell in love with it. She knew that was the material she wants to wear, ALWAYS! She kept going back to Bali to make more leggings for herself as well as extra pairs to sell at the flea-market in Koh Phangan and to friends in Amsterdam. It was not until 2001 when she decided to manufacture a bigger collection and lunched Funky Simplicity. Since then, Funky Simplicity has slowly but surely grown into an international underground dance- and yoga- wear brand. YOGINI'S CLOSET UNFOLD - |
1. Size – It is true to size. I wear my regular size XS. For your reference, I am Lululemon size 4. 2. Style – Full length legging. 3. Inseam – 25" long. It's the length that I requested. I probably could ask for couple itches shorter so that there is no extra fabric bunching at all. 4. Front Rise – 9" standard rise. 5. Waistband – 2.25” waistband, which is not very wide. There is a 0.75" wide elastic band on it. Overall, the waistband is pretty comfortable to wear, but it does not have great coverage or support like high waist leggings offer. 6. Fabric – 90% Cotton and 10% Lycra. The fabric is 4-way stretch and breathable, but it doesn't offer moisture wicking and fast dry properties that you would get from the synthetic fabric such as nylon.. The material is the same as Hard Tail Forever. I like how it is very breathable and keep me warm in cold weather; however, it does not wick moisture nor does it dry fast, which is not ideal for most of exercises I do. |
8. Cost – Retail price €69. I received it as gift from Sanne.
9. Stitch Seam – The inseams are overlocking seams, while the rest are flatlocking seams. I prefer flatlocking seams because overlocking inseams tend to leave marks on my legs.
10. Crotch Seam – No gusset.
The legging is made in Indonesia.
As Fall is coming, I love to wear Funky Simplicity Grey Cactus Legging when teaching and lounging at home. Before of the cotton fabric, it gives me that cozy feel much needed in the cold weather. Since the fabric is not moisture wicking nor is it fast dry, I don't wear it to any workout including yoga (Ashtanga Mysore style), HIIT and Tabata. That said, it doesn't mean you can't wear it to yoga. I have seen few yogini friends of mine wearing cotton leggings in the Mysore room. As to the fit and style, I personally prefer high waist legging, so it felt short on the support and coverage. If you prefer cotton over synthetic fabric for a legging, you definitely want to check out Funky Simplicity.

Dear Yogini,
thank you so much for making such a broad review. We would have loved to know that you wanted high waist, we can make also high waist leggings on request, same as the length of inseam.
If you like, we will make you a high waist pair so you can adjust your performance, comfort and design grades. Normally we get a 10 <3 love from Funky Simplicity
Hi Yoginis,
Yogini's Closet has just posted a comment on your blog post, Funky Simplicity Grey Cactus Yoga Legging Review:
Hi There,
Thank you very much for your comment.
My reviews rate performance on a number of attributes including breathability, moisture wicking and fast dry. I practice Ashtanga yoga in a heated room (~83F) and sweat a lot; therefore, it’s important that the fabric dries fast and wicks sweat. Cotton is such a soft and comfortable fabric to wear, but it absorbs water/sweat at the same time, which is less than ideal. As to the style, high waist leggings will definitively be a more comfortable fit and my preferable design. I would be more than happy to try out the high waisted style and provide additional feedback.
Namaste.
