Overall Rating - 8.5/ 10
PROS / Outdoor Voices Tech Sweat 3/4 Legging is made with sleek nylon blend fabric that is four-way stretch, moisture wicking and fast dry. The medium high rise provides decent support for the midsection.
CONS / The legging is not very flattering on me. The encased elastic band with an adjustable drawcord is not comfortable as it digs into my waist. BOTTOM LINE / Outdoor Voices Tech Sweat 3/4 Legging is a high quality well made legging. It covers the needs for workouts. Although the medium high rise gives support, the elastic band pinches into the waist. The legging also doesn't shape my body curvatures well. About Outdoor Voices -
Outdoor Voices (OV) is an active lifestyle brand, founded by Tyler Haney. Haney was meant to go to college to run hurdles. Instead, she took a year off to attend the business program at Parsons at The New School in New York City, graduating in 2012. During that time, she became "obsessed with technical materials." She continued learning the science behind raw materials, and how they work with bodies in different states of sweat. Eventually, she decided to make her own clothes and began working with fabric mills. In 2013, she launched Outdoor Voices.
In October 2014, Outdoor Voices opened the first retail store in Austin, Texas, where the headquartered is. Today, there are 7 retail stores in the US, including two pop-up shops. They believe in freeing fitness from performance, and embrace activity with ease, humor and delight. Their mission is to get people out there and Doing Things together, to redefine recreation as part of everyday life. Doing Things is as simple as moving our bodies and having fun with friends. Their goal is to grow the OV community and to inspire Doing Things together by Doing Things together. Details of Outdoor Voices Tech Sweat 3/4 Legging -
Top: Niyama Sol Oxblood Exlipse Sports Bra, XS/S (run big).
Bottom: Outdoor Voices Tech Sweat 3/4 Legging, Beach, XS (true to size).
I've known Outdoor Voices for quite some time, but I never tried their leggings until recently. Although I read lots of positive feedback, including some from my friends, about their products, I wasn't sure if they would meet my needs. For example, I like patterns, but Outdoor Voices only sells plain color leggings. I prefer high rise, flat waistband, while Outdoor Voices leggings have encased elastic bands. I can see how the elastic band digs into the skin from the picture online. That said, I decided to give Outdoor Voices a try. Maybe my perception was wrong. So, here comes this week's review, Outdoor Voice Tech Sweat 3/4 Legging in Beach color.
The legging is made in Columbia.
Performance -
Outdoor Voices Tech Sweat 3/4 Legging is made with moisture wicking and fast dry fabric. The material is four-way stretch, but it is not as stretchy as Lululemon Nulu and Nulux fabrics, and Niyama Sol RPET. It is breathable, but it's not better than my favorites. The Nylon, Polyester and Spandex blend fabric is sleek, which causes a small problem during my yoga practice. When I tried to bind in certain asanas, I had hard time keeping the bind in place. There was lack of traction between the skin and the fabric. Take Pasasana as an example, I ended up folding the pant up in order to keep the arm in place to bind. I was sweaty, but the skin contact gave me more grip than the legging. For that reason, I think the legging would work better for gym workouts than yoga. Quality - I have no complain about the quality so far. It is constructed with comfortable flatlocking seams with a lined gusset. It is anti-pilling and chafing. Fit - I ordered two sizes, XS and Small, as some people say it's TTS while others mention it runs small. The small fits me comfortably, but it doesn't "hug" my body as nicely as an XS. I would say it is true to size, but on the smaller side. If you are between size or prefer less compression fit, I recommend to size up. The legging may look great on some people, but it is not very flattering on me. It makes my hips look flat and wide. The seam across the butt doesn't compliment the curvature either. Although the medium-high rise design provides decent suport, it doesn't hide the muffin top. Comfort - The fabric is silky soft and comfortable, but the waistband is otherwise. The encased elastic band pinches into my skin, which is quite obvious in the pictures shown here, and it's not better by sizing up.
Outdoor Voices Tech Sweat 3/4 Legging is a well made high performance legging. The material is moisture wicking and fast day. The fabric is silky soft, but it is too sleek to do binding yoga postures. I like the medium-high rise style, but the waistband doesn't hide the muffin top and digs into the waist. While it may look great on others, but it is not the most flattering legging for me.
