Yoginis Closet Beyond Yoga Viper High Waisted Midi Legging Review
Picture
PROS / Beyond Yoga Viper High Waisted Midi Legging is a stylish legging. Made with medium high compression faux leather fabric, it provides tons of muscles support and body hugging sensation.

CONS / The fabric has plastic feel and does not breathe well. Also, it fall short on elasticity.

BOTTOM LINE / Although Beyond Yoga Viper High Waisted Midi Legging is super cute and stylish, it does not cover performance needs in yoga and gym workouts. Not only does it feel plastic, but it also lacks of stretchiness and breathability. The shiny finish gives an unflattering look.

Yoginis Closet CRZ YOGA Coated Faux Leather High Waist Legging Review
Picture
PROS / Made with an unique faux leather coated fabric, CRZ YOGA Coated Faux Leather Legging is lightweight, four-way stretch and breathable. Not only is it stylish, but it also covers basic needs for various workouts.

CONS / The legging is not flattering on me. It doesn't shape nor lift the butt, and the encased elastic waistband digs in to the skin.

BOTTOM LINE / Unfortunately, CRZ YOGA Coated Faux Leather Legging does not work for me due to its unflattering fit. That being said, it is a stylish legging featuring four-way stretch and great breathability. For $24, it has you covered from studio / gym to street.

Yoginis Closet Sweaty Betty Disco Foil High Waisted 7/8 Workout Leggings Review
Picture
PROS / Sweaty Betty Disco Foil High Waisted 7/8 Workout Legging provides performance needs for gym workouts. Not only is it four-way stretch, but it also features sweat wicking property. Combined the medium-high compression fabric with the high waist, it gives tons of support and makes me feel secured during the workout.

CONS / The gunmetal glitter print does not hide sweat stains. The legging fits loose behind the knee to accommodate the less stretch foil print.

BOTTOM LINE / Sweaty Betty Disco Foil High Waisted 7/8 Workout Legging is stylish and yet covers all performance needs at the gym. The medium-high compression fabric provides tons of muscles support and the high waist keeps the belly tucked in. Although it is quad proof, it doesn't mask sweat stains.

Yvette Shift Light Icon High Support Legging Review

Yoginis Closet Budget Stretching Pants Series - Yvette Shift Light Icon Legging Review
Picture
PROS / Yvette Shift Light Icon High Support Legging is a versatile legging. The medium compression fabric is stretchy, breathable and sweat wicking. It provides perfect amount of muscles support for yoga and gym workout.

CONS / The legging slides down if the drawstring isn't tighten, which however is prone to show the muffin top.

BOTTOM LINE / I recommend Yvette Shift Light Icon High Support Legging to those who don't want to spend a lot of money on leggings and just want few pairs to cover wide range of exercises. Even though the drawstring waist makes it more suitable for gym workout than yoga, the medium compression fabric is perfect for either activity. Furthermore, the legging gives a slim look.
Disclaimer: The legging was gifted to me, but the review is my own.

Approaching Year Ten of My Yoga Journey

2/8/2020

I am a yoga practitioner and I teach yoga. This July will mark the 10 year anniversary of my yoga journey. After years of practicing and over 1,000 teaching hours, I'd like to think I am an experienced yogini. In reality, I feel opposite. There is no doubt that I've learned a lot throughout these years, but my confidence level isn't quite there yet especially when it comes to teaching. I often ask myself, "Am I qualified to teach? Do I have valuable content to offer students? How can I be a better teacher?" All these questions are the driving force for me to continue learning, taking workshops and training courses, and most importantly, keep practicing.

One day, I brought up my feeling to my partner. He told me what I've gone though was normal and shared Dunning-Kruger Effect with me. It sounds a little bit geeky, but what can I say? We both have engineering background. I was impressed by how well Dunning-Kruger Effect reflected my journey as a yogini as well as a teacher. I overestimated my yoga knowledge after being RYT 200 certified, two years of practicing yoga. I was overconfident and suffered from ignorance. As explained by The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, "ignorance, the cause of suffering, can be removed by the practice of the eight limbs of yoga." Luckily, it didn't take long to see my deficiencies; however, it wasn't until 2015 when I started practicing Ashtanga yoga did I truly recognize my "incompetence." Incompetence may be too strong of a word, but I did have a lot more to learn for sure. The Asana practice is only one limb of yoga. There are seven other limbs, Yama, Niyama, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dhyana and Samadhi worth deeper study.

What is Dunning-Kruger Effect?
"In the field of psychology David Dunning & Justin Kruger talk about an illusory superiority that people believe (suffer from) in. This happens because of misjudging their cognitive abilities as greater, than it actually is. It is the inability to understand your incompetence, leading to inflated self-assessment." - Vunela
